Anglers with disabilities
There are many fishing platforms along and around the River Great Ouse that give good fishing access for anglers in wheelchairs.
Details of all of the fishing platforms are below. Wherever possible the Environment Agency is building new or adapting existing platforms to improve the facilities for anglers with disabilities.
Embankment and Boating Lake, Bedford
There's good access to this lake and parking is nearby. For more details about getting a permit call Bedford Borough Council on 01234 267422.
Ely Ouse, Ely
The tarmac paths provide good wheelchair access to fishing spots along the mooring frontage in Ely town centre from Ely high bridge and down stream to the second railway bridge at Annesdale Quay. This is also a spot where you can fish for free. Call East Cambs District Council for more details on 01353 665555.
River Great Ouse, Needingworth
There are two disabled platforms on the right bank of the Great Ouse opposite the Pike and Eel pub in Needingworth. You can access the platforms via Overcote Lane and park next to the pegs. To fish here you will need a permit from the Over and Swavesey District Angling Club.
River Great Ouse, Wyboston
There's three disabled platforms and paths for anglers in wheelchairs on the left bank of the Great Ouse in the Wyboston Leisure Complex. Car parking is nearby. Contact the Luton Angling Club for a permit.
River Great Ouse, St Neots
The St Neots Riverside Park on the Great Ouse has two disabled angling platforms with good paths for access. There's a nearby carpark and facilities. Contact the St Neots and District Angling Society for a permit.
Godmanchester Mill Race
There's two disabled platforms downstream of the Chinese Bridge, just off the tarmac path. A carpark is nearby. For a permit contact the Godmanchester Angling Club.
River Great Ouse, Huntingdon
At Huntingdon Riverside Park on the Great Ouse there's three disabled angling platforms and access paths. A carpark is also nearby. Free fishing from Huntingdonshire District Angling.
Houghton Mill, Huntingdon
There's two disabled angling platforms on the island between the National Trust's Houghton Mill and Houghton Lock. A carpark and facilities are nearby. Contact the Houghton and Wyton Angling Club.
