Tour of Ely Cathedral

David and his daughter Beth, aged 12, from Bourne visited Ely Cathedral. David tells us more about his guided tour of this magnificent attraction.

View from Ely CathedralWhen did you go?

We visited Ely in May. We were visiting Beth’s grandparents in the area over the weekend and decided to see a bit more of the town.

What did you do on your trip?

After walking along the river front and watching the boats. we all strolled into Ely town centre. We have visited the town on numerous occasions but have never gone inside the cathedral. As Beth was keen to see inside, we both took a guided tour.

What did you enjoy the most?

After the small climb up the cathedral stairs, the views from the top were breathtaking. Beth was delighted to be able to spot her grandparents' house. Beth was keen to go on the extended tour which leads you up a further set of stairs, but being afraid of heights we decided to turn around!

Did you go anywhere else during your trip?

We went into the Maltings for a coffee when we were in the river front. The staff were really helpful and it was a great start to our heritage trip.
